Ogyaru are gyaru who don't keep up with their personal hygiene. It is an insult that was used torwards gonguro and gyaru who were homeless. During the Gonguro boom, the media would constantly make rumours about gonguro. Buriteri, along with her friends, were ridiculed by the media, saying that they were prostitutes and had AIDS. It had gotten so bad during this time, many gyaru stopped dressing in gonguro and by 2001, the style was no more.
